Silas's notes about the precautions needed to protect his work.
Find the concealed route below the house
While investigating Silas with Crake, speak to the old woman with two dogs in Svartrau. She directs you to a nearby house, where Crake opens the door. Examine the patched wall, the chimney and the odd boards beside it to uncover the way down.
Once in the basement, inspect the rear bookshelf. Moving it opens the ancient passage. Silas’s note describes this concealment as a precaution against a suspicious neighbour; the laboratory connects to the surface in more than one place.
In the laboratory beyond, look for the note on the table and the footprints leading onward. Before following them, check the other table for a key: it opens the nearby library, where a Witchcraft Manual is on a shelf. Continue along the footprints when you have finished exploring.
