Anachora

Anachora is a hostile afterlife for vrakhiri. When a vrakhir kills another, the killer may absorb the victim's soul; a soul refused that fate becomes trapped in Anachora. The glossary describes cursed plains watched by an unnamed presence beyond the clouds.

Boar's Back

Boar's Back is a heavily forested part of Bakir's domain. Shrike's Crag, once a quarry, became the site of Skender's massacre of rebellious peasants. The abandoned quarry and surrounding woods are associated with rumours of manumit hideouts.

Briar Sloughs lies near Laslea, along the way to Svartrau. Swamps dominate its eastern side, while the west contains Brencis's soldiers and Stoneward Post, one of the valley's major military camps. The region presents different dangers on either side.

Greifberg Castle

Greifberg Castle is Brencis's seat in Svartrau and the prison holding Coen's family. Skender commissioned the stone castle to replace an older stronghold, completing it in 1336. Its walls did not prevent Brencis from seizing power.

Laslea Glen contains Coen's home village, Laslea. Its people once relied on silver mining, but Brencis closed the mines after taking power. Farming and herding now dominate village life, with the need to store enough food for winter shaping the community.
