Confidential orders for boyaress Xanthe’s soldiers.
The orders Hermin keeps from Sergeant Leonard
The letter addresses all patrol commanders. It tells them to look for women aged fifteen to twenty who are travelling alone and match the specified appearance, then take them to the keep under armed escort. The operation is to leave no witnesses.
Hermin signs the instructions and expressly forbids telling Sergeant Leonard. That final restriction explains the letter’s secrecy: the patrols are being ordered to conceal the abductions from another officer.
Instructions from Xanthe is a separate document written by the boyaress. It lists physical criteria, including age, height and complexion. Secret Instructions adds the practical orders to seize the women, escort them to the keep and keep the operation quiet.
In Report on Missing Women, Captain Andras asks permission to investigate disappearances across Xanthe’s domain and accuses the manumits. His letter presents that accusation; Hermin’s Secret Instructions instead exposes abduction orders issued to Xanthe’s own patrols.
