What did the director announce?
In a September 21 interview with Eurogamer, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said Rebel Wolves was targeting early October for a larger update. His priorities include an easier difficulty, changes to combat targeting and smoother escape from fights. The interview is a preview of that work, not a released patch note list.
An easier Story setting
The new lowest difficulty is intended to take the Story name. The existing Story preset would be renamed; the director had not settled on its replacement name.
Targeting and the camera
The team is revisiting automatic target switching after crowd-control abilities and how quickly subsequent hits remove a stun.
Escaping combat
Running away should become smoother, including fewer interruptions from animals when passing them at speed.
Performance work continues
The studio is collecting reports across PC configurations and continuing performance fixes.
How will Story difficulty change?
- The announced setting is easier than the Story difficulty available at the time of the interview.
- Use the difficulty options available in your installed version for now. The announced naming change does not alter the current four-preset comparison until the update is released.
Is New Game Plus confirmed for this patch?
- Tomaszkiewicz confirmed that the studio is exploring New Game Plus, but did not give a release date or announce it as part of the early-October patch.
- Additional enemy variety was also discussed as a possibility. Neither topic provides a confirmed feature list for the next update.
What players can do before the update
- Keep a manual save before major decisions and preserve a backup before changing installations. Continue planning builds around the abilities, equipment and difficulty settings currently available.
- The latest PC hotfix covered separately here is 1.0.5, which targets shader compilation. It should not be confused with the larger update described in this interview.
