Handwritten. From the time of Shrike's Crag uprising.
Follow the crane clue in Shrike’s Crag
The writer identifies himself as Anselme, a visiting monk. When Brencis’s soldiers rounded up the abbey’s residents, Father Foulcard handed him a bag and told him to flee. An arrow wounded him during the escape.
Anselme reached the quarry and lost his pursuers, but his wound continued bleeding. Unable to carry the bag farther, he hid it at the back of the quarry. Use the crane as the journal’s final landmark when searching that end of Shrike’s Crag.
The final instruction gives whoever finds the bag permission to take it. This is a lead left by Anselme; the separate investigation into St. Mihai’s sword follows the monk Albertus in Svartrau.
