Inspect the scene outside Volk’s hut
On a later visit in Buried Past, inspect the vomit outside Volk’s door and ask him about it. He explains that he lost his knife after drinking and offers to tell you how he obtained it if you find it.
Look up at the roof of the hut. The knife is sticking out about halfway up, above the ground where Volk has already searched. Return at night and use Shadowstep to reach the pickup.
Return the knife to Volk
Bring the knife back and speak with Volk to complete this optional errand. Boarding up his bedroom window is another request from this visit and uses the boards and nails behind the house.
Volk’s Knife is a quest possession. The separate Volk’s Sword belongs to the later conclusion of his story, so retrieving the knife does not award that weapon immediately.
