Klaus’s three choices and what they lead to
In Roadside Surprise you can tell Klaus to drop the act, encourage him to keep trying to join the manumits, or drain him at night, which kills him and increases Corruption. All three outcomes give the same immediate completion reward: one Kobold’s Blood, one skill point and experience.
The later accounts differ. Report on New Recruits, found in Crake’s office at the Manumit Hideout in Svartrau after encouraging him, says Klaus was judged unfit and injured himself trying to prove his skill. Report on Desertions contains a separate account of him on kitchen and latrine duties before an accident.
This note records an earlier patrol encounter. Tomas reports finding a man crouching beside a path with mud on his face and twigs in his hair. The man insists he is in disguise and identifies himself as Klaus the Brave.
When Tomas offers to take him to camp, Klaus runs towards the forest and falls into nettles. Tomas continues his patrol and asks that other soldiers be told about the encounter.
