Aurelius’s tower and Silas’s book
Aurelius is a scholar, astrologer and inventor who serves Brencis without being a vrakhir. In What Moves the Dead, Coen and Crake trace the gargoyles back to the alchemist Silas and find his old laboratory in Altenmarkt already searched by someone else. The journal confirms that Silas wrote about creating gargoyles and that his book is now with Aurelius. A note titled Orders from Master Aurelius shows that someone working for him was also sent to dig a cryptic tome out of the ruins beneath St. Tobias’s Cemetery.
Who Pulls the Strings sends Coen to his tower in The Silts after Marat reveals where it is. A flying Gargoyle guards the approach. Once inside, the objective is Silas’s notes on a third-floor pedestal; they contain a hex that weakens gargoyles, which Coen still has to learn, and taking them also unlocks Life Lock. The door above the book starts the separate Home Sweet Home sequence.
The tower library also has a hidden vault, and the Vault Key is the item that opens it. The key’s description names the vault but not where to pick the key up, so treat the vault as its own objective rather than part of retrieving Silas’s book.
