Codrin’s plan to poison Ambrus
Iulian Codrin is a Maragir noble who kept his title by swearing loyalty to Ambrus, but he secretly wants the boyar dead. A villager’s note says Codrin still has influence around Maragir after Ambrus killed other nobles, and a blood-collection ledger records four barrels sent back to him as instructed.
In The Gilded Gauntlet, Ambrus challenges Coen to a night duel at the old bell on a hill near Maragir. Before Coen accepts the challenge, Codrin invites him to his hunting lodge to explain a plan. You can refuse; he will wait if you change your mind.
Accepting starts The Bittersweet Toast. Light the campfire by the swamp to signal Codrin, then follow him to his poisoner friend Vera. She has gone missing: follow her tracks after the salamander traps, find her body, recover the ritual scroll and, if you want to complete the ritual the way she intended, kill the giant lizard in the nearby caves for its poison gland. The ritual can only start in daylight, and spirits attack while you light its five pillars. Complete the ritual before going to Ambrus’s duel, and do not postpone the meeting once Codrin is ready.
Adding the Tatzelwurm Gland to the brew protects Iulian from the poison. Leaving it out respects his stated wish to die. During the ritual he asks Coen to stop, but abandoning it leaves the poisoning plan incomplete; to finish, activate the pillars with Astral Communion, defeat the spirits and make him finish the brew.
At the duel, do not accept Ambrus’s offer to drink from Iulian first. If you prepared the poison, that choice poisons Coen instead of Ambrus. Refuse the offer or let Ambrus drink first to use the advantage you prepared.
