Find Albertus, then trace St. Mihai’s crypt
Look for Albertus in the unlocked shack at the northern edge of the Middens outside Svartrau. Continue his conversation until Coen can pick up charcoal and write on the wall. The answer sequence is Abelard the Sorrowful; Svartrau Plaza; his penance, the place of his redemption; never once set foot inside it; and St. Mihai, a great warrior, arrived at Vale Sangora.
The clues lead to the cathedral complex. You can investigate its treasury, library and caretaker’s shed; these are alternative sources of information, so finding the sword does not require completing every nearby side quest. At night, Shadowstep to the library balcony and enter through the unlocked upper door. The cathedral chronicle helps identify the crypt.
For the treasury route, look for its key inside a book in the bell tower. The boy guarding the tower can be bribed during the day; at night you can enter without that conversation. Inspect St. Mihai’s Chalice behind a bookshelf in the treasury to learn the saint’s crest.
Once the investigation points to St. Mihai’s memorial in the courtyard, inspect the second memorial stone from the right. In the crypt, use Focus to find the accessible chamber and defeat Mihai. The reward begins the sword’s restoration route; it is not yet the final Imbued Sword.
