Find Father Florin beneath Carpenter Row
The ruins beneath Svartrau connect three discoveries: In the Name of the Father reveals Florin’s meeting place, A Hero’s End leads to Ancient Hero’s Armour, and The Champion of Old points to a separate shrine containing Erkas’s Sword. The Hand of Fate is an optional chest along the underground route; collect its key before descending.
For Florin’s invitation, speak to him at Svartrau Cathedral during the day and take the confession conversation. His meeting objective identifies a building near the Western Gate by the symbol of Saint Tobias’s hand. Go inside and descend into the ruins. Follow the guide you meet below to reach Florin and learn about the Christians sheltering there.
You can also discover the building without that invitation. If the door is locked and you have been ambushed by Florin’s followers, search their bodies for the house key. This is the key to the building, before the Ancient Key used deeper inside.
Florin can offer a trial to retrieve an ancient warrior’s armour. If you cooperate, return to him after finding it. The ruins can also be explored without completing the trial for him: killing Florin is a separate decision, not a requirement for collecting the armour.
Match the key to the lock
Check the pickup name before leaving each room. The chest key comes from the cathedral treasury, while the keys found deeper in the ruins open routes through the dungeon.
| Key | Where to look | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Key | Florin’s underground chamber; check the barrel or his body if he died. | Door into the ancient ruins. |
| Treasury Key | The ledger in the cathedral’s ground-floor side room. | Cathedral treasury building. |
| Stone Key | Hidden cellar behind the treasury bookcase. | Stone chest containing The Hand of Fate. |
| Old Key | Skeleton below the crack beside the weapon chest. | Door above the nearby ladder. |
| Simple Key | Body beyond the crack beside the armour chamber. | Return shortcut toward the first rooms. |
The Stone Key opens The Hand of Fate’s chest. Ancient Key opens the ruins door, while The Champion of Old’s shrine uses a separate key.
Get the Stone Key from the cathedral treasury
- Enter the cathedral. At night, climb to the roof and use the open tower to descend into the building.
- Find the storage room in the north corner of the ground floor. Inspect the ledger on the table and collect the Treasury Key from it.
- Go into the courtyard and unlock the separate treasury building on its north side.
- Inspect the bookcase in the entrance room, then move it to uncover the way down.
- Descend to the hidden room and collect the Stone Key from the altar or ledge by the candles. Confirm the pickup before returning to Florin’s ruins.
This detour supplies the key for The Hand of Fate. The Phial of Xanthe’s Blood is another treasury find, in a box upstairs. The blood phial unlocks Blood Surge; it is not the key and does not require opening the underground sword chest.

Reach The Hand of Fate’s stone chest
Return to the chamber beneath Florin’s house and use the Ancient Key on the ruins door. Pick up the map in the first room, squeeze through the opening ahead and examine the wall above the sarcophagus. The armour objective continues deeper into the complex.
Take the left passage, turn left again and crouch through the low opening in the next room. The hole beyond drops to a lower cave. Follow it to the kobolds, defeat them and find the stone chest in their chamber. Use the Stone Key collected from the treasury to open it and take The Hand of Fate.
Nighttime gives you vampire traversal for broken sections of the route. Before dropping down, identify the next ledge and the way onward; a route that uses Shadowstep cannot be followed the same way in human form. The exit described below continues through the ruins using the Old Key and Simple Key.
The sword improves Witchcraft damage, cooldown and charge restoration. Compare those effects with your current weapon as well as its damage at your level. The Hand of Fate’s equipment page explains its four bonuses and links to the weapon comparison tools.
Collect Ancient Hero’s Armour and open the return shortcut
Squeeze through the crack next to the sword chest, then descend to the skeleton below and loot the Old Key. With that key, climb the ladder and unlock the upper doorway. A Fallen Witch waits beyond, so restore your resources before opening the way.
After the fight, follow the west passage. The eastern route returns toward the earlier drop. Continue through the enemies to the junction and take the stairs down toward the glowing chamber. Defeat the enemy guarding the room, then search the coffin at the back for Ancient Hero’s Armour.
The chest piece combines health regeneration, charge restoration and bonuses to magic damage and damage against supernatural enemies. It is Heavy Armour: check Second Skin II and armour penalties before changing your build around it.
To leave the armour chamber, look to your right for a narrow wall gap. Search the body beyond it for the Simple Key. Climb the stairs and unlock the shortcut back toward the room where you inspected the wall. If Florin is waiting for his trial result, go back up and speak to him; otherwise follow the objective to leave the ruins.
Use the fresco clue to find Erkas’s Sword
The Champion of Old concerns another ancient shrine. Inspect the fresco in the underground ruins and search the area for the associated key. The image gives Coen a lead to a shrine elsewhere in Vale Sangora; it does not place Erkas’s Sword beside the armour coffin.
If you discover the locked shrine first, the journal instead asks you to find its key. These are two approaches to the same discovery. Once you have the key, return to the shrine, open it, prepare for the undead guardian and search the chamber for the champion’s sword.
Use the Erkas’s Sword map marker for the shrine’s location and the fresco marker for the clue below Svartrau. Keeping the two markers separate is useful when the journal shows “Find the place from the fresco” rather than “Find the key”.
Erkas’s Sword’s stats and bonuses can help you decide whether to take this detour before the final assault on Greifberg. Finish the exploration before committing to that assault if you want the equipment for Brencis.
